mojito
Project Summary
MOJITO is a 3-year EIC-funded project developing a lab-scale route to decarbonised lime with lower energy demand and reduced process emissions. It combines an electrified rotary kiln with hybrid microwave + electric heating, enhanced by waste-derived carbonaceous additives and dedicated CO₂ collection.
MOJITO has been selected for funding under the highly competitive European Innovation Council (EIC) Pathfinder challenge “Towards cement and concrete as a carbon sink.”

Work packages
Research & Innovation Areas
MOJITO delivers its results through six tightly connected Work Packages, combining experimental R&D, pilot-scale engineering and advanced computational modelling to accelerate a low-carbon route to lime production. The work integrates materials characterisation, process data management, hybrid electrified (E/MW) calcination in an airtight rotary kiln with CO₂ collection, and exploitation/portfolio coordination.
WP1
Management, Coordination and Risk Management
WP2
Analysis of input materials, products and gathering of relevant process data
WP3
Pilot plant purchase, commissioning and operation
WP4
Computational science
WP5
Exploitation, Communication and Dissemination
WP6
Portfolio Management
